Jon Bristol
As a kid people would ask “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, and Jon would answer “Kermit the Frog.” He didn't actually want to be Kermit, he wanted to be a guy with his arms stretched over his head wiggle puppets. And that's what he's doing.
Jon Bristol founded Elmwood Puppets in 2002 and has been the creative force behind it since then. He's managed to trick a group of talented people into helping bring the puppets to life on film while remaining the key puppet maker.
A self taught puppeteer and puppet maker he has embraced and added his influences in cartooning, puppetry, and film into one big melting pot to create and inform the Elmwood style.
Making short and feature films with puppets has brought some acclaim, most notably for the series “Steve the Vampire.” Elmwood's films have screened for The Connecticut Guild of Puppetry, at the genre convention ConnectiCon, and for Hot Topic's annual corporate meetings. And they have been featured at the 2005 Nation Puppetry Festival from Puppeteers of America. Oh, and at Paris In Plantsville too!
One of the greatest things about working with puppets according to Jon; “Most of them don't exist from the waist down. So it's always Pants Optional.”
